The Strategic Era of Amazon

Amazon is simply a fascinating company. It not only survived the dot-com bubble but it thrived at offering consumers an online shopping experience. I have always had a love of Amazon. I highly value my Amazon Prime, and I probably use it a little too often. I will frequently cross compare items from gift registries at other stores to what is offered on Amazon. Often I can get the exact same item for a couple bucks cheaper AND I won't have to pay for shipping (easily my favorite perk of Prime)!

It is no surprise that Amazon is a multibillion dollar company. It not only is it continuing to grow, it presents a strategic plan of  being transparent while capitalizing on the company’s electronic technology capabilities. Although I am sure there are hundreds of strategic objectives for Amazon, the main strategic implementation that jumps out to me when I evaluate their website is their e-business strategy. E-business strategy is when a plan is put in place to utilize technology resources to improve and sustain a company’s performance and growth. We can easily see this in Amazon with their ability to continuously be improving a customers online shopping experience. Amazon is constantly implementing new e-business strategies to meet the needs to the consumers, compete with other vendors, and combat environmental issues.

Of course you can never take things as they are; it is important to evaluate things upon performance and have set tools to scale how progressive something is or isn’t. Performance metrics are used to evaluate a company’s success and development. This data can tell us where we are succeeding and where we need improvement. In my own personal evaluation, I would recommend a web analytics to evaluate Amazons web pages. Where are people clicking? When do people have to click the “back” button? Is there something that is frequently getting missed? Do people have to Google search something about your product? (That last one might be a whole different can of worms, but you get the idea.) With this information, Amazon could improve their user experience and highlight areas they may not have given a second thought to. This adjustment could present the opportunity to increase sales.

In conclusion, I think Amazon offers a fascinating range of marketing tactics that we can all learn a little bit from. They have really pioneered the way for online shopping and e-businesses. I will be absolutely keeping my eyes open for what comes next with this nifty company.

Side note: when is that drone delivery happening? That was all the buzz back in 2015… I am just saying…
